Bulldog Softball Lands at #13 on Preseason Poll
The University of Redlands softball team landed at #13 on the inaugural preseason top-25 poll produced by Division III Softball - The Newsletter.
Redlands is the only school from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to be included on the opening poll. Northwest Conference opponent Linfield College (OR) came in at #10, while regional rival Chapman University starts out the season at #18.
Last season, Redlands earned an impressive 34-12 record en route to its fifth overall and fourth consecutive SCIAC championship. In addition, the Bulldogs moved onto the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in as many years.
The Bulldogs boast 11 returning players, including All-American junior catcher Nicky Neumann (Fremont, CA). The team also welcomes back three All-SCIAC performers in junior pitcher Olivia Ellis (Colfax, CA), senior second baseman Dory Baga (Aiea, HI), and junior designated hitter Amanda Doeppel (Monrovia, CA).
Redlands opens the 2009 season on Saturday with a non-conference
doubleheader against Concordia University - Irvine at 12 noon at
the Softball Field of Dreams.
