Whittier
College Softball Coach Resigns;
Bridges-Thorpe Heads to Boise St.
Whittier, Calif.-Erin Bridges-Thorpe, head
softball coach at Whittier College, is leaving the Poets and moving
north to Idaho, to take the reigns of the Boise State University
softball program. She led the Poets to a 23-17 record last
season, the most wins for the program in over two decades.
Bridges-Thorpe becomes the first head coach of the Boise State
softball program. The team doesn't begin play until the
2008-09 season. She is no stranger to building a softball
program, having rebuilt a Whittier team the won just four games in
2002 into the 23-win team from a year ago. The Poets had five
all-conference performers, the conference Rookie of the Year and
two all-region players in 2007. Bridges-Thorpe leaves
Whittier with a 50-93 overall record.
In addition to her head coaching duties, Bridges-Thorpe has served
as the Senior Women's Administrator at Whittier since 2004 and the
Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance since 2005.
Going with her to Boise State is her husband, Whittier College
Director of Athletic Facilities and Operations, Eric Thorpe, and
their two daughters, Jordan and Peyton.
"Erin has worked extremely hard in building the Women's Softball
program at Whittier College over the past five years," says
Whittier Director of Athletics, Rob Coleman. "She leaves the
program in very good shape and has set the table for her
replacement to compete for a conference championship in the coming
year. Also, as our Senior Women's Administrator, Erin has
done a remarkable job making sure our program is in compliance with
all NCAA requirements. She will certainly be sorely missed,
but Boise State University has presented a wonderful opportunity to
Erin and her family and I and our entire program wish Erin and Eric
the best of luck in this endeavor." Bridges-Thorpe's last day
with the Poets in September 28.
