SCIAC Honors Athletes of Week: CMS' Marenin, La Verne's Jones

The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: CMS' Roman Marenin (men's track and field) and La Verne's Amanda Jones (softball).

CMS: Roman Marenin, Track & Field
The senior from La Canada won the 400 and 200 at the SCIAC Top Four Meet. He recorded the fastest times in the SCIAC this season in both events. His 400 time of 48.50 was an NCAA qualifying time. His 200 time of 22.26 was a personal best. He also ran on the 4x100 and winning 4 x400 team where he recorded his fastest split of the season (48.0). CMS won the meet with 192.5 points.

La Verne: Amanda Jones, Softball
A senior pitcher/outfielder from Upland, Jones smashed a walk-off, two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel La Verne to a 4-3 win April 2 over Chapman University, the nation's top-ranked softball team in Division III. The Leopard win snapped the Panthers' 18-game win streak and also was Chapman's first loss to a Division III opponent this season. A 2004 All-West Region selection, Jones is batting .301 on the season with! five homers. On the mound she leads ULV in both wins (eight) and earned run average (3.04).
