NEW ORLEANS — Occidental cross country coach Rob Bartlett was named USTFCCCA West Region Cross Country Coach of the Year on Tuesday after guiding the Oxy men's team to its first regional championship since 1991.

Bartlett receives the recognition for the second time in four years—he was named men's Coach of the Year in 2007.

"The coaching award is really just a an award acknowledging how well the entire team did. …All 19 guys," Bartlett said.

Bartlett's Tigers have won their last three events this year — the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Multi-Dual meet Oct. 15, the SCIAC championship Oct. 29 and the NCAA Division III West Regional on Saturday.

With its most recent victory in the regional at Pomona-Pitzer, the entire men's team qualified for the NCAA national meet in Oshkosh, Wis. on Nov. 19. Eight runners will travel and seven will run.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps coach John Goldhammer was named the West Region's Coach of the Year for the women, Colorado College's Jackson Brainerd was named the Region's male runner of the year and Pomona-Pitzer's Annie Lydens received women's runner of the year.

Bartlett and his staff also organized, coordinated and worked this year's regional at Pomona-Pitzer as the event's host.

Oxy spent the last two weeks of the season ranked No. 1 in the region, then backed it up with a first-place tie with Colorado College in Claremont.
