2010 SCIAC Cross Country Championships Results
Eric Kleinsasser of Occidental and Michele Callaway of Whittier
won the individual crowns, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won both the
men's and women's team titles Saturday, October 30 at the 2010
SCIAC Cross Country Championships.
Under cool, broken skies on a wet grassy course at Prado Park in
Chino, Kleinsasser pulled away on the last 1000m loop to win his
third straight individual crown. The Tiger junior clocked 25:53
over the 8000m (5 mile) course to finish ahead of CMS's Brian
Sutter (2nd, 25:58) and La Verne's AJ Licon (3rd, 26:00). Combined
with his Multi-Dual second-place finish from two weeks ago,
Kleinsasser earned the 2010 SCIAC Runner of the Year honors.
Callaway ran in a lead trio for the final 2 kilometers before
pulling away with less than a half mile to go. The Poet junior ran
22:57 over a course that was intended to be 6000m, but had to be
altered slightly mid-race after the pack ran off course. Callaway
finished ahead of Pomona-Pitzer's Annie Lydens (2nd, 23:05) and
CMS's Jennifer Tave (3rd, 23:07). Lydens earns the 2010 SCIAC
Runner of the Year honors with her Multi-Dual win combined with her
Champs runner-up spot.
In the team battles, Claremont-M-S scored 47 points (finish places
3-7-11-12-14) on the women's side to place ahead of Redlands (75),
Whittier (89), and Occidental (95). On the men's side, the Stags
tallied 32 points (finish places 2-4-7-9-10) to finish ahead of
Pomona-Pitzer (57), Occidental (94), and La Verne (107).
SCIAC teams will resume competition on Saturday, November 13 in
the 2010 NCAA Division III West Regional meet hosted by Willamette
University in Salem, Oregon.
