2009 SCIAC Cross Country Multi-Duals
In a meet that pits each conference school in a dual meet
against all others, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's squad and
Occidental women's squad came away with perfect 7-0 records
Saturday, October 17 at the 2009 SCIAC Cross Country Multi-Dual
meet at La Mirada Park.
Sophomore Eric Kleinsasser of Occidental took first over the
grassy, rolling 8000 meter (5 mile) course. Kleinsasser clocked
26:18 to win by 8 seconds over CMS runner Kramer Straube. Straube
led four straight Stags across the line, as CMS men placed 2-3-4-5
individually. Staube was chased by teammates Georgi Dinolov, Kris
Brown, and Matt Cummins to round out the top five individuals.
Claremont-M-S defeated Pomona-Pitzer (6-1), 16-42, in the dual meet
of the top two men's teams. Occidental went 5-1, while Redlands
(4-3), La Verne (3-4), Whittier (2-5), Cal Lutheran (1-6), and
Caltech (0-7) followed.
In the women's race, Occidental prevailed by a single point, 27-28,
over Claremont-M-S, which finished 6-1 in the dual meet of the top
two teams. In that dual meet Oxy runners went 3-4-5-6-9 to win by
one point over CMS, whose runners placed 1-2-7-8-10.
Jennifer Tave of Claremont-M-S won the overall women's
individual race in 22:12 over the 6000 meter (3.7 mile)
course. Tave finished 28 seconds ahead of Alicia Freese of
Pomona-Pitzer (22:40). Julia Rigby (3rd, 22:51), Occidental's
Phoebe Merritt (4th, 23:05), and Whittier's Michelle Callaway (5th,
23:18) rounded out the top five.
