2007 SCIAC Cross Country Multi-Dual Results

Occidental's women and Claremont-M-S's men swept to perfect 7-0 records at the 2007 SCIAC Cross Country Multi-Dual meet Saturday, Oct. 13 at Prado Park in Chino. Senior Kevin Chaves of Occidental and junior Evelyn Ross of CMS took individual honors.

On a Prado Park course made soggy, muddy and slippery from rains the night before 78 men toed the line. The race went out cautiously, as a lead pack of five stayed together through the two mile mark. Chaves, always in the lead, kept applying pressure, however, and split the pack apart. Chaves's lead extended to 10 seconds past the four-mile mark, and he won easily in 26:22 over the 8000 meter (5 mile) course. Adam Coleman (CMS) followed in 26:37, and Chris Smith (Redlands) took third in 26:42.

CMS runners finished 2-4-7-10-11 to beat all teams in dual meet scoring.

Claremont-M-S 7-0, Occidental 6-1, Pomona-Pitzer 5-2, Redlands 4-3, Cal

In the women's race of 78 runners, Ross (CMS) seemingly reluctantly took the early lead, with the trail pack tightly bunched behind her. Ross pressed the pace nearing the 1-mile mark, and only Pomona-Pitzer's Alicia Freese went with her. The duo ran together through the 3 mile mark before Ross pulled away in the last 1000 meters. Ross won the 6000 meter (3.7 mile) race in 23:46, with Freese second in 23:56. Behind those two was a large gap, with Maddie Weissman (Occidental) taking third in 24:41.

Occidental runners finished 3-8-9-10-11 to beat all teams in dual meet scoring.
