Congratulations to Occidental's Kevin Chaves for being named the
SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week!
OXY: Kevin Chaves, Cross Country
Senior Kevin Chaves capped off his collegiate cross country career
with a seventh place finish at the NCAA National Championships. He
led the Tigers to an 18th place finish, one position higher than
their seeding entering the meet. Chaves improved significantly in
the standings during his tenure at Oxy, placing 178th two years ago
and 154th in the field last fall. Chaves ran among the top three
runners for the first three splits of the race, falling back to
sixth at the fourth and final split before crossing the finish line
in a time of 24:47, which was just 23 seconds off the winner's
pace.
