SCIAC Honors Athletes of Week:
Pomona-Pitzer's Freeman, Redlands' Kelly
November 1, 2005
The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: Pomona-Pitzer's Crosby Freeman (men's cross country) and Redlands' Avery Kelly (women's cross country).
PP: Crosby Freeman, Cross Country
Crosby Freeman finished in first place at the SCIAC Championships
on Saturday at Prado Park. His time of 25:04.5 was a course record.
He paced five Sagehen runners in the top ten, including teammate
Will Leer who finished second. Freeman is the first SCIAC male to
win Runner of the Year three times, and only the 11th to earn
all-SCIAC First Team honors for four years.
UR: Avery Kelly, Cross Country
Avery Kelly's outstanding freshman season continued on Saturday as
she won the gold medal at the SCIAC Championship meet in Chino and
qualified for the NCAA West Regional. She ran a career-best time of
22:01.10 on the 6K course and crossed the finish line 38 seconds
ahead of the second-place runner. With only limited cross country
experience, Avery has developed into the Bulldogs' top harrier
throughout her rookie campaign.
