Derek Johnson from the University of Redlands and Eric Flores of
California Lutheran University were honored as Co-Athletes of the
week.
Derek Johnson, University of Redlands
Baseball
(JR, pitcher - Canby, OR)
Junior pitcher Derek Johnson earned his program-record-tying 12th
win of the season when he tossed a complete game against No. 6
Chapman University on Sunday in Orange. Johnson scattered seven
hits and allowed one run while striking out a game-high six
batters. This marks the second single-season program record that
Johnson owns or ties; he also gained 11 saves last season, which
wound up ranking second in NCAA Division III.
Eric Flores, California Lutheran University
Track and Field
(SO, Throws - Custer, S.D.)
The CLU throwing specialist beat a field of 21 competitors at the
Occidental Invite on Saturday in the hammer throw with a distance
of 216 feet, 11 inches. The mark is the second longest in Division
III history and within 14 inches of the best ever hammer throw. He
also finished third in the shot put and seventh in the discus on
Saturday. Flores is a 2010 two-time SCIAC Champion taking the
hammer and shot put events, while finishing runner-up in the
discus. The sophomore currently holds the CLU record in both the
hammer and shot put along with the second best mark in the
discus.
