SCIAC Honors Athletes of Week: Redlands' White, CMS' Roberson and Muhich

The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: Redlands' Corey White (men's track and field), CMS' Matt Roberson (men's track and field), and CMS' Jackie Muhich (women's track and field).

Redlands: Corey White (Men's Track & Field)
Corey won the national title in the javelin last week with a stadium-record throw of 231-7 at the NCAA Championships in Lisle, IL. He outdistanced his second-place competitor by nearly 25 feet. He and two other Bulldogs combined to finish 7th as a team at the national meet, one of if not the best finish in Redlands history.

CMS: Matt Roberson (Men's Track & Field)
The senior from Seattle, WA won his second NCAA Division III Decathlon title at the NCAA Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL. His winning score of 7,188 was a new CMS record breaking the record he set winning the 2004 NCAA title. His winning margin was 183 points over fellow SCIAC competitor Fritz Nugent of Redlands. Roberson won three of the 10 events (long jump, 400 meters, 1500 meters). He led after the first day and the first three events of the second day, but he trailed going into the final event by 33 points. He won the final event, the 1500 meters, by 11.53 seconds to secure the win. He is the first CMS track & field athlete to win mo! re than one national title. Prior to the Championships, Roberson was named the USTFCCCA National Men's Field Athlete of the Year.

CMS: Jackie Muhich (Women's Track & Field)
The senior from Encinitas finished fourth in the 400 hurdles at the NCAA Division III Championships. She had the best SCIAC finish in this year's meet. Her time of 61.23 broke her own CMS record (61.39) which she had set in the prelims two days earlier. Her time is the second best in SCIAC history. Prior to the Championships, Muhich was named the USTFCCCA West Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year.
