SCIAC Honors Athletes of Week: Pomona-Pitzer's Freeman, CMS' Sonne
March 22, 2006

The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: Pomona-Pitzer's Crosby Freeman (men's track & field) and CMS' Kim Sonne (women's track & field).

Pomona-Pitzer: Crosby Freeman (Men's Track & Field)
Crosby Freeman won the Occidental Distance Carnival 10,000m race on Friday, March 17 with a time of 30:21.59. That time is a Pomona-Pitzer school record -- the first men's school record in 15 years -- and it also is an NCAA III provisional qualifying mark. It is also the fastest 10,000m time ever recorded by a Division III SCIAC runner. That time works out to a 4:53 mile pace for just over 6 consecutive miles (25 laps).

CMS: Kim Sonne (Women's Track & Field)
The senior from San Diego broke her own CMS and SCIAC records in the 3000 steeplechase by almost 19 seconds with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 10:45.56 while winning the Aztec Invitational on Friday. The time currently leads the nation, is the 10th best in Division III history and is over 40 seconds better than any other SCIAC athlete ever. On Saturday she won the SCIAC Top 4 meet in the 800 with a time of 2:17.56. This is the best time in the SCIAC by five seconds. She also anchored the 4 x 400 relay with a team-best 60.2 split.
