Bulldog Men's Tennis Moves onto NCAA Championships
The NCAA announced the match-ups and locations of the NCAA Championships for men's tennis late this afternoon. Redlands (12-14) has earned a spot in the playoffs for the 16th year in a row.
The Bulldog men's tennis team advances onto the regional at UC Santa Cruz (16-5), facing Hardin-Simmons University (TX; 17-6) in the first round on Friday, May 4. The winner of this match takes on UCSC on Saturday, May 5. Following first-round byes, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (25-6) and Pacific Lutheran University (WA; 16-9) face off in the second round to complete the regional bracket. On Sunday, May 6, the winning teams compete in the third round to determine the regional champion. This team then moves onto the quarterfinals at Washington University (MO) on May 15.
The Bulldogs finished second in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) behind a very talented CMS squad. During the 2007 season, Redlands faced 11 team ranked in the nation's top 25 for Division III.
The women's tennis team did not garner a spot at the 2007 NCAA Championships, despite boasting an overall record of 12-8 against top opponents. The Bulldogs finished third in the conference behind Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
The University of Redlands now looks forward to the announcements for softball and men's golf on Monday, May 7. With the 2007 conference title, the softball team advances onto the postseason as an automatic qualifier.
