Poets Name Pudwill Director of Aquatics

Whittier, Calif. –Whittier College Director of Athletics, Robert Coleman, has announced that Justin Pudwill has been named the Director of Aquatics and will oversee the men’s and women’s water polo and swimming & diving programs at Whittier College.

Pudwill majored in Sports Management at Salem International University in Salem, West Virginia.  While there he was a member of the baseball, swimming and water polo teams, earning Academic All-American honors in all three sports for three years.  Water polo at Salem International is a Division I sport.  Pudwill also played semi-professional water polo for the Ontario Water Polo Club in Ontario, Canada.  His team won the Canadian Junior Club Championships in 1999.

Pudwill has been the head coach of the men’s water polo and swimming programs for Whittier over the past two years and has made tremendous strides in rebuilding the program.  “Justin has worked extremely hard over the past two years and I feel very comfortable that he will handle the expectations that come with this hire, said Coleman.”  Coleman also said, “When we hired Justin two years ago he was very excited about calling Whittier his home and I think we have made a commitment through this promotion.  There is little question that we want this to be a long term relationship.” As for Pudwill’s thoughts on taking over the women’s programs he said, “Coaching women is an avenue I’ve been down before so I am excited about the challenge. They are a great group of women.”

The Whittier College Board of Trustees has recently announced they will begin breaking ground on a new 43 meter swimming pool in August ’09 with a completion date slated for June ’10. “This promotion is an honor. It’s a very exciting time at Whittier College with the new pool coming. I think the direction we are heading is the definition of a great aquatics program,” Pudwill said.
