January 24, 2007

The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: CMS' Matt Gannon (men's swimming) and Lisal Smith (women's swimming).

CMS: Matt Gannon, Swimming
The sophomore from Valencia won two individual events and led off the winning 200 medley relay to help CMS win at Pomona-Pitzer 170-72. He won the 400 IM in a conference-leading time of 4:25.02, winning the event by over nine seconds. He won the 100 back by 3.5 seconds with a time of 57.22. He split 26.65 leading off the relay. CMS is 6-1 overall and 5-0 in SCIAC.

CMS: Lisal Smith, Swimming
The senior from Davis won two individual events and led off the 200 medley relay to help CMS win at Pomona-Pitzer 182-55. She won the 100 back and 100 breast in pool record times. The 100 breast (1:07.72) was an NCAA qualifying time while the 100 back (1:00.07) missed by just 0.08 seconds. She won the back by over 1.5 seconds and the breast by three seconds. She gave the medley relay the lead and the relay would have also broken the pool record, but they were disqualified for a bad exchange later in the race. CMS is 7-1 overall and 6-0 in SCIAC.
