SCIAC Men's Basketball Tournament
Semi-Final Results
February 29, 2008
It was a night of upsets for the SCIAC Co-Champions and top
seeds going into the first ever SCIAC Men's Basketball
Tournament. Both Occidental (1) and California Lutheran (2)
came up short in SCIAC Post-Season play tonight.
Occidental (1) hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (4) at Rush Gymnasium
in a tough semi-final match. The Stags led for all but the
first 35 seconds in the second half by as many at 13 points.
Fans from both Occidental and Claremont were wound up as the Tigers
came within two during the final minutes of the game, eventually
falling 66-62 to CMS. Occidental's overall record falls to
21-5 while CMS improves 15-12.
At the Gilbert Arena in Thousand Oaks, the fans watched as
Pomona-Pitzer (3) defeated Cal Lutheran (2) with a final score of
54-44. In just their second home loss of the season, the
Kingsmen could not hold the Sagehens as they tied the game halfway
through the second half and never looked back.
Pomona-Pitzer's overall record improves 14-12, while California
Lutheran's season ends at 21-5.
The exciting Post-Season SCIAC competition will continue on
Saturday March 1st as the Pomona-Pitzer College Sagehens
host the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags. The winner of the
SCIAC Tournament Championship game will earn the SCIAC's automatic
bid to the NCAA Tournament. Occidental will look for an
at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, final selections will be
announced on Monday March 3.
