SCIAC Honors Athletes of Week: Redlands'

The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: Redlands' Amir Mazarei (men's basketball) and La Verne's Trenecca Jones (women's basketball).
Redlands: Amir Mazarei, Men's Basketball
Senior Amir Mazarei has been on a scoring and stealing terror since
November 30. In five games, he has accumulated 158 points for 31.6
points per game, including 37 three-pointers. He has tallied 22
steals for over 4 steals per game. With these statistics, Amir has
pulled within one point of tying the Redlands all-time career
scoring record, which is currently held by Jack Schroeder from
1960-1962 at 1699. For steals, Amir has 191 steals, which is 28
away from Perry Bellaire's record from 1987-1990.
La Verne: Trenecca Jones, Women's
Basketball
A sophomore from Ontario, Jones powered the Leopards to wins last
weekend over La Sierra and UC Santa Cruz as ULV improved to 5-1 on
the season. Jones collected a double-double of 17 points and 12
rebounds in the 63-51 road triumph over the Golden Eagles on Dec.
8. She followed that by registering game-highs of 21 points and 10
rebounds in an 86-72 win over the Banana Slugs on Dec. 9. Jones,
who is averaging 16.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, has posted
double-doubles in five of ULVâ€TMs six games
this season.
