Cal Lutheran and Redlands Heading to NCAA Tournament
It was announced on Sunday afternoon that the No. 13/14 University of Redlands and Cal Lutheran were selected as one of 32 teams for the 2011 NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs hit the road to the No. 4 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, while Cal Lutheran will face a familiar foe. Linfield.
Redlands gained an at-large berth to the "Big Dance" after finishing second in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) behind an 8-1 overall record. The Bulldogs return to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2007 and seek their first postseason win in Redlands' NCAA Division III history.
UMHB is coming off its second perfect regular season in as many years and will open the NCAA Championships at home for the fifth time.
The meeting between CLU and Linfield will be the fifth in the last three seasons.
Linfield, the three-time Northwest Conference champion, has beaten CLU, the three-time Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion, in the first round of the playoffs in 2009 and 2010.
CLU's only loss this season came to Linfield in the season opener in Oregon. The Wildcats defeated the Kingsmen 24-14.
