SCIAC Honors Athletes of Week: CLU's Jones, Coverdale

The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: CLU's Danny Jones (football) and Mo Coverdale (volleyball).

CLU: Danny Jones, Football
Junior quarterback Danny Jones had a phenomenal game as he led the Kingsmen to a 55-12 victory in a career day. Jones finished the game with seven touchdowns. He threw for a career high five TDs, while he rushed for two more. Passing he was 17-24 for 295 yards with no interceptions in only three quarters of play. Jones had an unbelievable passing efficiency rating of 242.8 surpassing his previous career best of 220.3. He connected with four different receivers, each picking up at least one touchdown. The 87-yard pass for the first score of the day exceeded Jones' previous best, a 73-yards toss against Ch! apman i n 2005. He also ran the ball three times for 12 yards, giving him 307 total yards on the day. Jones has led the Kingsmen football team (3-0, 1-0) to 10 straight victories. The Kingsmen have won 16 of their last 17 games, with Jones at QB, dating back to 2004. Jones was named to the d3football.com Team of the Week for his performance on Sept. 30, 2006 against La Verne.

CLU: Mo Coverdale, Volleyball
Cal Lutheran senior volleyball player Mo Coverdale helped lead CLU to three SCIAC match wins last week. First against Pomona-Pitzer she posted match highs with 14 kills (.444 hitting percentage) and four aces in the Regals three-game sweep of the Sagehens. On Friday night versus Redlands, Coverdale once again was the match leader in kills with 20 kills coming on just 32 attempts for an outstanding .531 hitting percentage. The senior also tallied a team high 11 digs and an ace in the Regals three-game sweep of the Bulldogs. To complete an already outstanding week Coverdale led Cal Lutheran to their third three-game sweep on Saturday at Occidental with another match high of 22 kills that came on only 28 attempts and equaled an exceptional hitting percentage of .679 to go along with another match-high with two aces. For the week, Coverdale totaled 56 kills, seven aces and 19 digs! in the three crucial conference wins for CLU.
