October 24, 2006
The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: Occidental's Matt Andersen (football) and Redlands' Rachae' Bell (volleyball).
Occidental: Matt Andersen, Football
Matt Andersen rushed 14 times for 118 yards, his third 100-yard
game of the season, in the Occidental's 38-23 win over longtime
rival Pomona-Pitzer. Andersen scored the Tigers' second touchdown
on a nine-yard scamper late in the first quarter, capping a
seven-play, 75-yard drive in which he accounted for all but 11
yards of the team's offense. Andersen also caught four passes for
30 yards including a ten-yard touchdown midway through the second
quarter.
Redlands: Rachae' Bell, Volleyball
Senior Rachae' Bell (Davenport, WA) tallied 85 digs in two matches
last week, including a 54-dig performance against Chapman
University. While breaking her previous school record of 50, this
was one shy of the all-time NCAA Division III record for four
games. Last week, she averaged 10.6 digs per game.
