SCIAC Honors Athletes of Week:
Occidental's Tanous, ULV's Friestad

The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: Occidental's Tim Tanous (football) and ULV's Lauren Friestad (volleyball).
Occidental: Tim Tanous, Football
Tim Tanous nabbed a game-changing fourth quarter interception in
the Tigers' important 24-10 victory over Redlands Saturday at Ted
Runner Field. After Occidental took a 17-10 lead early in the
fourth quarter, Redlands answered with a 30-yard kickoff return and
a quick first down by quarterback Chris Saras into Oxy territory.
Tanous picked off a Saras pass on the next play at the Oxy 43,
killing the Redlands drive with 13:10 remaining. Tanous led the
Tigers with ten tackles, eight solo, in addition to the
interception. Occidental stretched its regular season winning
streak to 21! games, a new school record.
ULV: Lauren Friestad, Volleyball
A senior libero from Hemet, Friestad collected a season and career
high of 42 digs as La Verne defeated Redlands 30-22, 30-23, 28-30,
30-21, 15-7 on Oct. 6. Friestad also recorded a match-high 22 digs
in the Leopards' 30-26, 30-28, 30-32, 32-30 triumph at Cal Lutheran
three nights earlier on Oct. 3. Friestad has totaled 356 digs this
season (6.59 per game) as ULV remains unbeaten on the year at 17-0.
