Redlands' Football Donates Over 400 Blankets to San Bernardino Mission

On Thursday morning, a first occurred for Head Coach Mike Maynard: he cancelled morning weights for the Bulldog football team. This has never happened in his 19 years at the helm, but based on a series of events, he could not refuse the opportunity to reward his team for their selfless giving and enthusiastic response.

On Monday night, Coach Maynard charged his team with the challenge of donating 400 blankets to the San Bernardino Mission by the end of the season. By Tuesday's practice, the team had gathered over 100 blankets and earned the opportunity to skip that night's "Equalizers"- the team's conditioning workout.

Still motivated and determined to do more, the Bulldogs came up with 427 blankets by 4 p.m. on Wednesday as part of a challenge to Coach Maynard in exchange for canceling morning weights on Thursday. In less than 48 hours, the Redlands football team collected, bought, and delivered 427 blankets to the San Bernardino Mission.

"The team really came through. It was like game time and nothing was going to stop these guys," Coach Maynard commented.

Community service has always been a big part of Coach Maynard's football program. In years past, he has helped organize the delivery of Thanksgiving food baskets to needy families in the Inland Empire. Unfortunately, due to schedule changes and a conflict with the team's game on November 11, the Bulldogs are unavailable to assist in this matter this year. Coach Maynard offered to help in other ways and the mission suggested they help replenish their stock of blankets. Eager to help, the Bulldogs came through with impressive results.
