SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week: Ryan Schwenn, Whittier College
Ryan Schwenn, Whittier
College
Baseball
(Senior, Pitcher - Scottsdale, AZ)
Ryan again for the second straight week has been impressive on the
mound as he pitched his first career no hitter against the Leopards
of the University of La Verne who are ranked No. 25 in the country
and atop the SCIAC standings in first place. He was a walk away
from a perfect game as he went 9.0 innings surrendering a walk to
go with four strikeouts in route to the 4-0 victory. With the win
he now improves his record to 6-3 on the season compiling the best
statistics he has ever had at Whittier College remaining atop the
SCIAC statistics for wins. The no hitter to many is one of hardest
feats ever to achieve in baseball, while some argue the unassisted
triple play or hitting for the cycle is even harder but Schwenn
achieved this feat this evening marking the first time in head
Coach Mike Rizzo's tenure at Whittier College that one has been
thrown. It also marks the first time in Schwenn's career he has
ever thrown a no hitter etching his name into the Whittier College
record books.
