SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The California Lutheran University men's water polo team concluded the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego with a 13-12 victory over No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Sunday afternoon.

The Kingsmen faced a tough schedule at the two-day event from the get go--starting with the Division I powerhouse UC Santa Barbara--currently ranked No. 6 in the country. Jeff Chaney led the Kingsmen with a pair of goals but it was no match for the Gauchos in a 22-5 defeat.

CLU then faced No. 17 California Baptist University and trailed late in the first half, 7-1. However the Kingsmen made a late push closing on a 4-1 run before falling to the Lancers, 12-8.

To open day two Cal Lutheran faced the No. 1 ranked team in Division III University of Redlands. CLU scored the opening goal before allowing four unanswered and six total scores by the Bulldogs in the first quarter. The deficit proved too much to overcome as the Kingsmen fell, 12-7.

Cal Lutheran capped off the tournament against No. 4 ranked CMS in a highly contested battle. Neither team led by more than two goals. CLU's Ricky Mulcahey scored the game-winner with 58 seconds left in regulation.

CLU (1-3) will host the three-day CLU Fall Tournament starting on Friday, September 19 at 4 p.m. against Fresno Pacific University.
