Kingsmen Take Two at Convergence
CLU win streak longest in program history
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The California Lutheran University men's water polo team split its four games at the Convergence Tournament this past Friday and Saturday. The Kingsmen victory over Fordham (NY) extended the team's win streak to four games and the most in the program's history.
CLU dispatched of the Presidents, 18-5 with 10 different Kingsmen scoring in the victory. The team's 18 goals equals the second high single-game scoring output in men's water polo history and the most since the 2004 season.
Team leading scorer Matt Heagy netted a season high eight goals in a 14-11 win over Fordham. Jeff Chaney added two goals and grabbed six steals. Wes Lewis chipped in with a pair of scores. Goalkeeper Jordan Bouey made 10 saves.
The No. 4 ranked Cal Lutheran squad took on No. 2 ranked Johns Hopkins (MD) to open Saturday's competition at the University of La Verne. The Blue Jays ended Cal Lutheran's longest win streak in program history to open Saturday's action, 7-10.
Heagy and Chaney scored three times apiece. Bouey stopped 11 shots in the loss.
CLU lost to NAIA opponent California Baptist University, 9-16 to close out the 2008 Convergence Tournament.
Cal Lutheran (8-9) will open its conference schedule on Saturday, October 18 at home against the nation's top-ranked division III squad University of Redlands.
