Redlands Men’s Water Polo Goes 4-1 at Inland Empire Classic


The University of Redlands men’s water polo team, which is ranked 16th in the Varsity Top 20 and No. 1 in the Division III poll, posted a 4-1 record hosting the Inland Empire Classic from Sept. 13-14.

Senior driver Andrew Becskehazy (Miami, FL) paced the offense throughout all five games, scoring 11 goals total. Also providing extraordinary offensive help in the two-day classic was junior center Brendan Meaney (Palm Desert, CA) and sophomore defender Andrew Smith-Jones (Annapolis, MD), scoring 10 and nine goals, respectively.

Other Bulldogs to find the back of the net included senior utility player Buddy Olds (Murrieta, CA) with seven goals, junior utility player Jim Kehrig (Danville, CA) with five goals, junior driver Brent Dotters (Porterville, CA) with five goals, senior defender Jon Rielly (Vista, CA) with five goals, sophomore center Miran Terzic (Palm Desert, CA) with four goals and junior utility player Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA), freshman driver Jeff Parsons (Newark, CA), freshman driver Tyler Harp (San Bernardino, CA) and senior driver Scott Tsukamoto (Dana Point, CA) with one goal apiece.

In goal, senior goalkeeper Teddy Trowbridge (Mercer Island, WA) tallied 49 saves in the five games played while junior goalkeeper Jack Amaral (Porterville, CA) stopped five shots.

Taking on Division I University of the Pacific in game one, the Bulldogs fell 10-8 to a Tiger team that ranks 14th in the Varsity Top 20. Redlands continued through the rest of the classic unbeaten.

With a variety of scoring threats tallying goals, the Bulldogs routed Whittier College by a 17-8 score. Later on in the day, the maroon and gray won a defensive battle against Occidental College by a 10-5 final.

The next morning, Redlands continued where it left off, dropping Chapman University by a 12-8 final. Concordia University provided the closest contest so far this season for the Bulldog team with Redlands coming out on top 13-12.

Taking this weekend off in competition, the Bulldogs prepare for the UC Santa Cruz Slugfest at UC Santa Cruz from Sept. 27-28. The game schedule for the two-day event has not been announced yet.
