LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2008) – A gorgeous 70 degree Southern California day playing baseball was the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon for the current Tigers baseball players as well as the past Tigers who returned to Anderson Field for the Alumni Game.

The third annual Hall of Fame Awards Weekend began with an afternoon at the ball park, which turned into a meet and greet on Branca Patio before dinner at the Johnson Center with Hall of Fame Inductions closing out the event.

Out on the diamond 33 Tigers donned black and orange for the first time in 2008, while 29 alumni dusted off their cleats, gloves and bats in an attempt to make a play or get a hit off the current players. Many more Oxy baseball alums and Oxy supporters filled the stands for the event.

Shannon Stewart, Brad Leon, Brad Marcelino, Joe Love, Andy Crocker, Blake Lichtig, Gary Skraba, Shaun Beaudette, Steve Robinson, Mark Harris, Mike Kniseley, Rob Drew, Vince Gallo, Andy Lewis, Jared Miller, Dave Andres, Derek Hoffman, John Powers, Miguel Saldana, Tom McGrail, Jason Sabolic, Doug Tisdale, Ken Sulzer, Eric Rasmussen, Ralph Baca, Brian Frank, Dave Geiger, Dan Sulzer, Greg Millikan and Scott Larson represented the Alumni team on the field.

The old-timers gathered six hits and scored five runs thanks to a pair of hits and two RBIs from Harris, a 2008 Hall of Fame inductee. Miller, Andrew, Hoffman and Marcelino each collected a hit in the game as well. Saldana, Powers and Marcelino all added an RBI, while Stewart, Miller and Andrews all crossed the plate for the Alumni.

Nine different pitchers threw for the Alumni team that allowed nine runs, six earned, on 14 hits.

Every member of the Tigers varsity squad stepped out on the field today.

Seth Goss and Case Miyahira collected two hits apiece, including a double. Newcomer Michael Zugsmith and William Ireton each doubled as well while Jason Jebbia added a triple. Adam Franks drove in two and  Richard Veihl, Matt Andersen and Goss each picked one up as well.

Oxy’s ace Matt Jones got the start and tossed two innings. Seven other Tigers took the hill during the course of the game, including three freshmen and a transfer.

In the end the current players outscored the alumni 9-5.

After dinner, as a conclusion to the event, eight men will be honored by the HOF including Frank Beal (’07), Duffy Seay (’13), Harry Kirkpatrick (’14), Carl Manoogian (’51), Frank Bennett (’54), Mike Welch (’67), Mike Kniseley (’90) and Harris (’91). The 1954 Championship Team was also inducted this year.
