CLU Falls to Westmont

Photo: Tracy Maple · Hi-res imageTHOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The California Lutheran University volleyball team dropped a road decision to NAIA opponent Westmont College on Thursday night, 30-25, 30-18, 30-27. CLU setter Lindsey Benson had a match-high 24 assists and team-best 3.5 blocks against the Warriors.
Cal Lutheran’s Summer Plante-Newman notched a match-high 12 kills and has connected for 22 through two matches this season.
Westmont tallied nine aces to only two for CLU, including four by senior Malinda Reese. Katie Pace and Ally Rios each dished out 21 assists and connected with eight different Warriors combined on the night.
CLU (0-2) will play its home opener on Friday, September 14 at 1 pm against UC Santa Cruz as it hosts the inaugural CLU/Redlands Invitational two-day event. The tournament brings six other teams including fellow SCIAC members Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and the University of Redlands.
