CLU earns win over Pomona-Pitzer, falls at home to Redlands

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Kingsmen tennis team edged Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 5-4 on Friday before its four-match win streak came to a halt at home on Saturday. The No. 12 ranked University of Redlands defeated CLU, 7-2.

The Kingsmen won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, providing a crucial one-point advantage it would hold to after splitting six singles contests with the Sagehens.

CLU's Paul Wetterholm and Forrest Hunt won the top doubles contest 8-4.

The Bulldogs, ranked 12th in the nation, failed to sweep the singles matches when Junior Paul Wetterholm pulled out a three-setter in a tiebreak to take the No. 1 match.

After a disputed serve call that put Wetterholm down 3-4 in the tiebreak, he won the next four points in a row to take the match.

The other victory for the Kingsmen came in Sophomores John Karsant and Ryan Lassila’s No. 2 doubles match, winning 8-6.

Junior Forrest Hunt kept his match close, but failed to pull it out in a third set tiebreak, losing 6-2, 4-6, 6-7(4-7).

Cal Lutheran (10-9, 4-2 SCIAC) will travel to Biola on Friday, April 11 at 2 p.m. before finishing the regular season at home the next day at 9:30 a.m. against the Whittier Poets.
