Regals Prevail Over Poets

Smith, Clark provide second half spark

WHITTIER, Calif. – The California Lutheran University women’s soccer squad won its first conference road match against Whittier College on Wednesday night, 3-0. After a scoreless first half, Freshman Aubrie Smith scored a pair of goals within the first eight minutes of the second half en route to the win.

Despite 11 first half shot attempts, six were on target and all stopped by Poet goalkeeper Lowhren Aceves.

The Regals pair of Brittany Clark and Smith combined for an assist and score in the following 7:39 to take a 2-0 lead. Clark managed to score her eighth goal of the year off a Jordan Kirkman pass to cap the scoring.

The CLU goalkeeping trio of Kristin Borzi, Brittany Tippet and Kelly Balch combined for four saves and the clean sheet.

The Poet offense managed five shots including a pair from Brittany Kunz.

Cal Lutheran (4-7-3, 3-3-2) returns home to face La Sierra University in non-conference action on Sunday, October 14 at 1 pm.
