CLU breaks scoreless tie with second half scramble

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The California Lutheran University men’s soccer team ended a 70-plus minute scoreless tie when CLU junior Greg Young put away a goal mouth scramble. The win extends the team’s conference road win streak to three matches after defeating Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont earlier this season.

The score came just over 25 minutes into the second half after a host of Kingsmen were in front of the Tiger goal and Young put the game-winner away. CLU goalkeeper Chris Thompson stopped one Occidental shot to pick up his fifth solo shut out of the season.

Both teams struggled to create many offensive opportunities with Kingsmen notching just nine shots with three finding the target.

Occidental goalkeeper Alex Combs made a match-high two saves in the loss.

Cal Lutheran (8-3, 5-1 SCIAC) will wrap up its first go-around of the SCIAC season on the road Wednesday against the University of La Verne at 4 pm.
