Kline Named Interim Director of Athletics at La Verne

University of La Verne Head Women's Basketball Coach Julie Kline has been named Interim Director of Athletics for the 2008-2009 school year, as announced by Provost Alden Reimonenq.

Currently, Kline serves as the Senior Women's Administrator in the ULV Athletic Department and is also an associate professor in the Movement and Sports Science Department. She will continue to serve as the Head Women's Basketball Coach while attending to her new duties as Interim Athletic Director.

"I am looking forward to serving in this new role and continuing to build on the foundation of excellence within our Athletics Department," said Kline, who officially assumes her new position on July 1.

As Assistant Athletic Director, Kline has been involved in various facets of the ULV Athletic Department. Some of her responsibilities include working day-to-day operations along with specific oversight to designated sport programs. During her time at the collegiate level she has served on a variety of committees and has been part of numerous organizations, including the SCIAC Eligibility Committee and the Student-Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC).

Kline has served as the head coach of the women's basketball team for the past 16 seasons, leading her squad to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament Championship and a second straight NCAA postseason bid in 2008. Additionally she has claimed SCIAC Championships in 2003 and 2007.

She also served as ULV Head Softball Coach from 1993-2003. Under her leadership the Leopards claimed four SCIAC championships, including three consecutive crowns in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Her 1993 squad reached the Division III College World Series.

A graduate of Whittier College, Kline was an All-American in basketball and softball with the Poets and has been inducted into the Whittier College Athletic Hall of Fame.
